science acceleration policy
CREDIT
Students who complete a commencement level science course in 8th grade, including the minimum requirement of 1200 minutes of laboratory experiences with supporting documentation, are eligible to take a Regents Exam to earn high school course credit. Student must earn a minimum score of 65 on the Regents Examination and earn a minimum score of 65 in the course.
Proof of meeting the requirements outlined above must be submitted to Brooklyn Tech as early as possible to facilitate proper programming for the student and avoid program changes.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
A copy of the last report card where the final grade for the course is indicated as well as the passing grade on the Regents or a letter on school stationary signed by an authorized school official indicating the final course grade as well as the passing grade on the Regents.
PLACEMENT
Students who pass the Living Environment Regents in middle school will automatically be placed in Physics I.
Earth Science is not offered at Brooklyn Technical High School and will have no bearing on course placement. Credit will be awarded as outlined above.
Students in the Gateway to Medicine Program will automatically be placed into a 9th grade sequence including Biology I & II and Chemistry I & II in preparation for a rigorous pre-med sequence of courses. Acceleration policies have no impact on Gateway student palcement due to the unqiue structure of the program.
