College Prep 
 College Prep, one of the original majors at Tech, is returning in 2010.  The concept of the program is to provide open enrollment (versus competitive  admission  in other majors) and flexibility to meet the individual needs of students in an academically rigorous sequence of courses.


Selection Criteria:   Open Enrollment
Junior 1
PTLW Principles of Engineering
Junior 2
4th Year of Language
Senior 1
PLTW Elective
(Aero, Bio Tech, Civil-Arch, Digital Electronics,
Robotics, Engineering Design & Development)
Senior 2
4th Year Math or Science

Required Elements:

·          College Prep students are required to pass 4 years of Technology classes including:

o   Design & Drafting for Production (PLTW)

o   Sophomore Technology

o   Principles of Engineering (PLTW)

o   Elective (PLTW) from Aerospace Engineering, Bio-Technical Engineering, Civil Engineering & Architecture, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, or AP Computer Science.

·          College Prep students must pass 4 years of a Language Other Than English

o   AP Spanish

o   AP French

o   AP Chinese

o   AP Italian (if discontinued by the College Board, Italian Level 4)

·          College Prep students must pass EITHER 4 years of mathematics OR science at Tech.  Options may include:

o   Pre-Calculus / Introduction to Calculus

o   AP Calculus (AB or BC)

o   Multivariable Calculus / Differential Equations

o   AP Statistics

o   Introduction to Computer Science or AP Computer Science

o   History of Mathematics

o   Discrete Mathematics

o   Mathematical Finance

o   Genetics

o   Anatomy

o   Forensic Science

o   Astronomy

o   AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics (B or C), AP Environmental Science


Any elective courses beyond those requirements listed above are by individual choice and may be added to the program based on funding and available space.  For example, some students may choose to take four years of math AND four years of science though it is not required. 

AP Courses in the humanities are not impacted by this choice of major and enrollment is available for qualified student in AP English and AP History courses.
