Amateur Radio and Wireless Technology Club
|
The BTHS Amateur Radio Club has a very long tradition of helping students to learn about all forms of wireless technology and training operators who provide communications when needed in response to emergencies such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados and terror attacks. As part of that training, we practice by providing public service communications for events like the NY City Marathon, March of Dimes, etc. Regular meetings on Thursdays after period 9. Current and new members welcome. NEW ROOM ENTER THROUGH THE NHS LOUNGE ON 9 WEST
We use our club amateur radio station equipment to talk to other ham radio operators all around the world. You can earn your own FCC license after a few weeks of study. The exam question pool for the entry level Technician Class license will change after June 30, 2010. Anyone interested in getting a license soon, should prepare and take the 35 question test as soon as possible. Come to a club meeting for more info and assistance. The Amateur Radio and Wireless Technology Club is the oldest at Tech. It was started in 1921 at Manual Training HS and moved to Tech's original building near the Manhattan Bridge in 1923. Our alumni include many successful engineers, scientists, doctors, and other professionals. Scholarships are offered through our national organization, the ARRL. See the ARRL Foundation for more info. www.arrlf.org Regular meetings are held on Thursdays, after period 9 in our new room above the NHS Lounge. Enter through the NHS Lounge on 9 W.
